I finally started some seeds for my vegetable & herb garden. I probably should have done this a couple weeks ago, but… well… I don’t really have an excuse.

Maybe I’ll blame the fact that Old Man Winter just doesn’t seem to want to let go this year.  We had snow over the weekend.

We had to make a plan this year.  We’ve had a garden at this house for the past 2 years, but neither year was particularly productive.  The main issue was with the tomatoes.  And squirrels.  Specifically, tomato-eating squirrels.  Oooh, how I hate the squirrels in our yard!  Last year I had 2 tomato plants and only harvested 1 single tomato.

This year is going to be different.

Last year, we bought plants at the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market.  This year I decided to try growing from seeds.  I’ll still probably get a couple things at the Farmer’s Market, because who can resist? I can’t.

Hopefully all of our vegetables will do better this year.  These were the carrots we got last year:

Ha ha.  In case you can’t tell, they’re all about 2-3 inches long.

This year… This year will be different.  This year I have seeds growing inside.

This year I’m trying to grow 6 tomato plants.

This year we’re building an iron fortress for them.

Ok, just a cage.

But as far as squirrels are concerned, it will be an iron fortress.

I just planted these last night, and already I can see some of the seeds beginning to change.

We’ll see how many of these I can get to grow.
