Big Brother Bag

Well, we’re still here, waiting for the baby to arrive. Our due date is just over two weeks away, so we’re mostly just waiting.

I’m not very good at waiting.

So I’m trying to get as many things done as I can before (s)he decides to show up, and one of those things is putting together a gift for Little Man from “Tiny” (his name for the baby until it’s born.) I think that Little Man will do pretty well with a new baby, but we just won’t know until then, will we? I’m hoping this gift helps him to feel special when the new baby gets a good portion of his heretofore undivided attention.

Children’s Art Piece– For Kids, by Kids

Children's Art Piece -by amber's hands-Well, baby #2 will be here sometime in the next several weeks. I feel like I still have loads of things to get ready before this little one arrives.

We’re planning for the new one to bunk with Little Man, at least for a while, so we’re working on making his room fit for two. While this involves mostly adding furniture and reorganizing things, I also noticed we don’t have much up on the walls. When Little Man was born, we got some adorable forest animal decals. As soon as he was ambulatory, he made it his mission in life to climb whatever was necessary to take them all down. Now he has one solitary dragonfly that’s still in place.

I didn’t really have any plans for putting anything on the wall until I got a sweet little machine for my birthday this month. It’s a Silhouette Portrait. (The Portrait is the smaller version, capable of cutting materials up to 8″ wide. They also sell the Cameo, which can cut materials as wide as 12″.) So far I’ve been having tons of fun with it. It comes with software you can install, and then you hook up the machine to your computer. You can buy designs in their store (most of which are $.99 each) or create your own. It’s really quite versatile. I love it.

Anyway, fooling around with my machine gave me a great idea for creating an alphabet art piece for Little Man’s room. The best part? He made it mostly himself.

Maternity Dress

I made a dress.

I know that I generally seem pretty crafty on this blog, but I am no seamstress. Until recently I’ve been completely freaked out by sewing machines in general. So this is my first actual article of clothing that I sewed myself. And it’s kind of cheating, because I used a t-shirt for the top. But I still sewed the skirt and tie by myself and attached it to the t-shirt. So I’m pretty proud of myself.

And let me tell you, if you own a sewing machine and can sew moderately straight lines, you can make a dress like this.

Giraffe and Whale Onesies

Hi friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was solidly OK, but I still feel like I could use about 20 more hours of sleep. Which is pretty much a constant feeling for me these days.

Anyhow. I’m sharing some embellished onesies with you today. I made these, oh, back in August. Nothing like staying on top of things, amirite?

But hey, you’re still getting to see them, right? That counts for something, I’m sure.
