My Life

Little Man’s First Haircut

My baby is gone.

He’s been replaced by a little boy, and I’m not ok with it.

Today he got his first haircut. And now he doesn’t look like a baby anymore.

This isn’t the post I was planning to write today. I was going to write about cookies, but pretty much everything today turned out a bit different than planned. So I’m just rolling with it. Come back for the cookies post tomorrow.

We went to Kid’s Hair, and the staff there are great. Despite their best efforts, Little Man was not going to be happy about this milestone. He cried as soon as we put him in the chair.

By the way, I was feeling lazy, so I didn’t edit any of these photos. Sue me. (more…)

Deck Schmeck

For those of you who don’t know, the husband and I bought a house about 3 1/2 years ago. It was foreclosed and kind of a mess. It was large, which is nice. But whoever owned the house before us made some questionable decisions about “renovating” and such, and the deck was one example. It seems that the deck boards were not in the greatest shape, and instead of replacing them, they opted to cover them first with plywood, and then with Astroturf. It was pretty classy.

Little Man’s First Birthday

Two weekends ago, Little Man had a birthday. His very first birthday, in fact.

So we had a party.

Duh.

I was so excited to have this party. I planned the food really far in advance and tested out different recipes. My husband was pretty upset when I had to bake several batches of cupcakes before finding one I liked.

Despite significant prior planning, the week leading up to the party kept becoming more and more full of other obligations. It was fairly frustrating to me to watch more and more things I couldn’t avoid filling up every day of that week. I knew it would be difficult to get everything finished. Add to this the project of fixing the deck that turned into a nightmare that we were finishing up to the night before, and I was one stressed mama. (more…)
